About this course

This course is the first of a two-course series that is based on Dr. Heiser’s book, The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible. Starting with the Old Testament, Dr. Heiser takes a behind-the-scenes look at Chapters 1 through 22 to uncover what the Bible really says about the supernatural unseen world. You’ll journey into the ancient world of the Old Testament to learn about the historical and cultural milieu of the Bible’s original authors and audiences.

I was very intrigued by the break down of these plagues and their designed destruction on the gods of Egypt. This was a solid teaching!

I didn’t have the slightest concept of what the basis of the supernatural world view of the Bible was. I have been in charismatic churches since my salvation experience in 1984. It was a supernatural experience of his presence in a way that changed everything about my life. But after that I really knew nothing from a contextual basis about the supernatural. I would hear people talk about spiritual warfare but never heard about the divine council or the three rebellions or the disinherited nations or fallen elohim. I had no basis for discernment of what was really intended when I read I was seated in heavenly places above the powers. And I certainly had no idea where demons came from. And Genesis 6:1-5…Wow!!! Thank you Dr Heiser for leading us down the path you traveled after your associate showed you Psalm 82. I believe that God is using these classes to awaken the body of Christ to the truth about the Bible and the supernatural kingdom it presents. Thank you so very much!

I am so grateful for the dot-connecting that Heiser's research has provided. Reading scripture like a 1st Century Israelite and being more aware of the logically consistent nature of the Bible (and therefore the illogically inconsistent arguments that often raise their head in our modern culture) has been a true life changer. It has positively impacted not only my personal time in the Bible but also biblical discussions in small groups (life group/community group) in a way that is turning the light on for many others. I wish I had known this when I was younger but the best I can do to pay it forward is to teach my own kids the correct mosaic view of the Bible so that they will be able to have firm foundations and far less scriptural "grey areas" than I reluctantly experienced in my teens, 20s and 30s.

I learned a lot from taking this course. Through studying how people of the Second Temple Period - and earlier - understood their cosmology I was able to see why the Bible was written as it was. The required and additional reading helped give a deeper understanding of the various topics. Dr. Heiser's lectures were easy to understand and his examples and illustrations further enhanced what was being taught.
